Review: Each of Us a Desert

Hello friends, happy Wednesday! I hope everyone is having a good week. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Mark Oshiro’s novel Each of Us a Desert.

Each of Us a Desert

Each of Us a Desert by: Mark Oshiro: Xochitl wanders the desert alone with the troubling stories from her village deep in her belly. All she wants is to be rid of the ability to listen and absorb other’s stories. One night she meets Emilia who could be the answer to her wishes they just have to travel through the desert together and survive the nightmares when the sun sets. This was a beautiful story that took the reader on a journey. The reader wanted to love this novel, but there was just something missing for it to be loveable. This novel started very slow and it took time for the reader to get into the story and to feel any real connection with the characters. About a third of the way in, the novel started to pick up and the story really started to bloom. The life lessons that the main character learned along the way were enjoyable to read and the reader liked getting lost in the stories. The characters were good, they had heart and soul but they also felt a little two dimensional. The reader wished that they had been developed a little deeper. The story of the two kindred spirits was graceful and engaging to read. Overall, this was well written, with lots of poetic writing and a captivating journey.
