Hi guys! Happy Monday! Today I’m going to be posting my review of Jaye Robin Brown’s novel Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit.
I made the mistake of reading a bunch of reviews and seeing people not like this book, when I absolutely adored it. It seems this book was either really well liked or really disliked, there’s no in-between. I guess I fell on the loving side of the fence.
Georgia Peaches and Other Forbidden Fruit by: Jaye Robin Brown: It’s Joanna’s senior year, but her pastor father has remarried and uprooted their new family from big city Atlanta to small town Rome, Georgia. Because of this move, her father has asked her to hide who she is and not be so open about her queerness and lie low for a year. Joanna, unwilling, goes along, but what she doesn’t anticipate is all the events that happen along the way. This novel was everything and more. It was so much more than what the reader had anticipated. Everything from the plot, the conflict, to the characters were all so good. Even though the reader can tell that the ending will be okay, this is a beautiful contemporary after all, the reader wasn’t prepared for the journey it would take to get there. The plot pulled no punches and truly left the reader craving more. Brown has this way of inviting her readers in, making them feel loved and safe and wanting to stay in this world she’s created. The overall plot and conflict was so well done; it was not only a fun read, but an uplifting and feel good read too. The characters were these dynamic, fierce, strong, queer and accepting people; they made everything come to life and made it all worth reading. Without amazing characters this story wouldn’t have been as grand as it was. This is a novel you didn’t know you needed.
I’m glad to see you enjoyed this! I’ve seen this around but just never thought to pick it up. Might have to borrow it from the library at some point 😀

The library near me has closed down since they are completely renovating it. But they have a small branch close by thank gosh. Once it’s all done, I’ll probably start going back to the library 🙂

I’ve been seeing this book everywhere recently! Especially blogs and instagram.
“Georgia Peaches” will always remind me of Lauren Alaina from Season 10 of American Idol 😀

Really? That’s interesting. Oh, maybe because June is pride month, maybe that’s why.
I don’t even know who that is! I googled her and I still don’t know who she is, but she’s from Georgia so I can see the connection haha! 😂
