This is my Genre, Tell Me Yours: Book Tag

Hi guys! My book tags are getting crazy again, and to think I had them under control (ha! 😜) Today I’m going to be doing the This is my Genre, Tell Me Yours tag, which the lovely Birdie tagged me to do. I thank you for that, and am excited to start! πŸ™‚

WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE GENRE?

That is such a hard question. I bounce all over the place. I guess you can say that I truly love reading contemporaries because I feel like I can relate to those a lot better than say fantasy. A second favourite would have to be horror/thriller. I am a sucker for Stephen King, anything he writes I will read. I have yet to read his whole collect because he just keeps writing!

WHO IS YOUR FAVOURITE AUTHOR FROM THAT GENRE?

From contemporary, boy that’s hard. Jodi Picoult is very good at her craft. Ellen Hopkins is brilliant. Ugh this is too hard.
And obviously from horror: Stephen King.

WHAT IS IT ABOUT THE GENRE THAT KEEPS PULLING YOU BACK?

Well as I mentioned above, I love the fact that I can relate to the stories; not all, but quite a few. I find I just read them so quickly.
I go back to horror because I like scary things. Sometimes I wonder why because some things are just so scary.

WHAT IS THE BOOK THAT STARTED YOUR LOVE FOR YOUR FAVOURITE GENRE?

Can I say I have no idea? I just think of all the nice wonderful books I’ve read and it just makes me happy enough to pick up another, and another, and another…

IF YOU HAD TO RECOMMEND AT LEAST ONE BOOK FROM YOU FAVOURITE GENRE TO A NON-READER/SOMEONE LOOKING TO START THAT GENRE, WHAT BOOK WOULD YOU CHOOSE AND WHY?

If I just pretend I’m trying to get my mother to read a book I could probably answer this, actually I’m pushing her to read The Rosie Project as we speak, (she is reading it, no idea what her thoughts are yet). I feel like anyone can like that book. They’re funny, they have their ups and downs it’s quite perfect.

WHY DO YOU READ?

Because I might die if I don’t… Β a tad dramatic, but I have a flair for the dramatic 😝. But in all seriousness I don’t know what it is, I get this feeling, like eating a really good piece of cake, when I read that I just have to keep going. It’s almost like a high, so good.

  2. I really love this tag, it’s such a great way to introduce people to your genre isn’t it? I read fantasy more than contemporary books but I have recently been reading more and more contemporaries. In fact it’s probably my second favourite genre now.
    I’m too much of a wimp to ever attempt reading a horror book like the kind Stephen King writes! πŸ˜€

    1. Thank you Beth! & It really is! That’s pretty cool. Oh aw King does have a novel that isn’t extremely scary that I love for the story telling and the time travel, it’s called 11/22/63. SO good, if you ever decide to read it let me know! πŸ˜€

  3. I recently listened to a podcast where Jodi Picoult talks about being a white woman and writing Small Great Things and I fell in love with her SO hard, so fast. I’ve always been kindofsortof a fan, like I like how her stuff makes me question things but I’m so intimidated by her productivity, haha. Ellen Hopkins is good, too, but I’ve only read Crank.

    The Rosie Project is probably one of my all-time favourite contemporaries, though! Just so funny and quirky and heart-warming, and it’s rare that we get a contemporary romance – one that’s not filled with sexual innuendos or stuff like “she’s SO hot, can;t wait to take her to bed” – from the perspective of a man.

    1. I find Jodi Picoult’s novels to be so well researched and so put together that I can’t help but want to read more of her writing!
      Oh man you have to at least read the other two books in the Crank trilogy!
      I completely 100% agree with you on the Rosie Project!

      1. She is SO amazing. If you’re into podcasts I’d recommend listening to that one as well, just because she also speaks about sensitivity readers and that’s a hot topic in our community. The podcast is called No Filter. πŸ™‚

      3. No Filter is actually not a book podcast – it’s like interviews with people (usually Australians, bc it’s an Australian podcast) about things that are usually hard to talk about? Hence the ‘no filter’ title. I think Picoult was touring to Australia though which was why she appeared. Definitely worth a listen. πŸ™‚

  5. I am actually starting to like contemporaries more and more nowadays, I can see why they appeal to you. I cannot read horror books though, I am an extreme scaredy cat. The Rosie Project sounds really good! I just added it to my tbr. Great tag, Meghan! I’ll have to do this one day.
