Hello friends, happy Monday! I hope you’re all doing well. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Amanda Hocking’s novel Freeks.

Freeks by: Amanda Hocking: When Mara and her traveling family at the carnival land a gig in the small town of Caudry, things start to get weird. Everyone’s abilities start to go haywire and a dark presence seems to be lurking over the town. People of the carnival keep getting attacked and they don’t know if they will be able to stay for the two weeks they’ve been given. Meanwhile, Mara meets a cute local boy, Gabe, to hang around with, who may know more than he’s letting on. This was a well told story that had the reader engaged throughout the whole novel. Although, the reader could predict some of the way things were going to end, it didn’t stop them from enjoying the story. The way Hocking set the story up was well done; it was a nice build-up of events, all while keeping up a good, fast pace. The fact that the chapters were rather short made for a faster read as the reader was flipping through pages to see what was going to happen next. The mix of supernatural and romance plots was just right; it was a great balance so that it didn’t feel too romance or too supernatural heavy. The characters were memorable; they didn’t feel too clichéd and Hocking gave them distinct backgrounds and characteristics that left them unforgettable. Even the secondary characters left an impression on the reader with their individual quirks. Overall, this was a fun, suspenseful read.
