Hi guys! Happy Wednesday, and happy first day of May! ☀️🌷… although it’s raining like crazy right now ☔️ Today I’m going to be reviewing Mary Roach’s book Grunt: The Curious Science of Humans at War.

Grunt: The Curious Science of Humans at War by: Mary Roach: This book takes a look at the military and war like no one has before. Dealing with challenging issues such as exhaustion, heat and noise, as well as grimmer and grisly topics as diarrhea, and dealing with amputees. These are all things no one really thinks about when thinking about war. This book takes the reader on a journey they weren’t prepared for, but in a good way. There were so many topics that, as stated, the average person doesn’t think of when it comes to war and Roach addresses them all so well. That’s what really leaves the biggest impression on the reader- the topics, as they are engaging and thought provoking. It really helps that Roach has this sarcastic, almost witty spark in her writing that keeps a smirk on the reader’s face, whether talking about sillier topics or more serious, she really knows how to lighten a mood. The order in which she approaches these topics doesn’t seem to have a reason to the untrained militant eye, but nonetheless it flowed and subjects segued into one another pretty well; some worked better than others, but for the most part topics ran into each other quite well. This was definitely an eye opening book, you don’t have to be interested in the military or war to enjoy this because Roach makes it so enjoyable to learn these quirky things you’d never think to think about.
