Weekly Update #8 πŸ’—

Hello friends, happy Friday and welcome to my Weekly Update!

Currently Reading:

The Dead Zone: I’m 21% of the way through; we’re starting to dive deeper into this, but there’s all this foreshadowing that feels really unnecessary.

The Return of the King: I’m 81% of the way through; I made some great progress this week and I’m really hoping to finish it this weekend *fingers crossed*. I’m still enjoying all the background the appendix is giving me.

Lastly, I’m reading Pip Bartlett’s Guide to Unicorn Training by: Jackson Pearce & Maggie Stiefvater. I read the first book in this trilogy years ago and then I forgot about it, so I’m picking it back up. This has been really cute and I’m close to finishing it!

What I’ve Read:

I finished my second ebook of the year, Ever the Brave by: Erin Summrill. I loved this just as much as the first. So many characters had their relationships tested and there were battles and new characters. I loved how it all came together.

I also finished What Ever Happened to Interracial Love? by: Kathleen Collins. I don’t normally enjoy literally fiction, but these short stories were so good, so heartfelt and full of passion and they felt raw and real.

Links to posts I enjoyed around the blogosphere:

CW @The Quiet Pond recommended 20 sci-fi and fantasy books by Black authors; I honestly need more time to read all of them
Kate @Your Tita Kate discussed white authors writing POC characters and everything you should know and this was such a great, informative, thought-provoking read
Sofii @A Book. A Thought. discussed how to stay motivated as a reader and blogger and I love her discussions posts because they are always so relatable, this one is no different and there are some good reminders in her post too
CW @The Quiet Pond interviewed author L.L. McKinney and it was so lovely to read – I really enjoyed her novel A Blade So Black and I really need to get my hands on the second novel, such a great Alice in Wonderland retelling
Sofia @Bookish Wandereress made a list of eight non fiction books by Black authors and it gives me even more reading material

I don’t even know how February is pretty much over – this month just slipped by so quickly! Taking a look at this past week it wasn’t too bad. Over the weekend I tried my hand (again) at making cinnamon rolls. This time I used store bought dough, which made rolling the dough SO much easier and they came out a lot softer! I went to the dentist for the first time in over a year, and since the pandemic hit. I felt really safe; they had all this protection, which was great and the hygienist was so pleasant and took her time.

A few positives from this week:
– I made better cinnamon rolls!
– I have clean teeth (haha πŸ˜‚)

What I’m watching:

One Tree Hill; season 3. I’m about halfway through, and I’m loving this season (like I knew I would). UGH when Keith returns and he’s all smiles he makes me so happy and I’m happy for him… but what’s to come for his character I’m not prepared for. The addition of Rachel has made me realize how much it tests Brooke in so many ways. I just passed the episode where they’re getting ready to think about college, and the speech Brooke gives the guidance councillor really brought me back to high school and how I felt about high school, woof the feels.

Orange is the New Black; season 1. I’m on, I believe episode 6 and I had to put it on hold for Game of Thrones (because I gotta give it back to the library) but I plan to get back to it once I’m finished. The characters are starting to grow on me, and the plots are so weird, but it’s SO unpredictable and that makes it really watchable.

Game of Thrones; season 8. I know so many people hated this season, but I can’t not watch it. I need to know how it all ends… even if it’s trash.

The Good Doctor; season 4. Another episode I enjoyed. I loved seeing Leah being taken seriously for her job and to see that Shaun respect her and Glassman start to respect her was really nice to see.

Kim’s Convenience; season 5. Another solid episode. The whole weed plotline his week was hilarious! I think the way they handled both medical and recreational weed was really good.

This is Us; season 5. Again, so many babies! This episode just watched as the different dads of the show became dads and their first moments after the babies get to come home. It was full of cuteness that’s for sure, but it didn’t do much for me.

What I’ve watched:

Gilmore Girls; season 4. I finally finished this season! The season finale is still my favourite finale of this show; so much happens and the moment Lorelai and Luke kiss, it’s just so magical, even if it’s a crazy time, I still can’t help but swoon, they are so cute! Then there’s Rory… oh boy. I’ve never liked her choice to sleep with Dean. I have to say upon this re-watch, I’m really not a fan of Rory.
