Review: Nevernight

Hello Friends! Welcome to February and happy Monday! Today I’m going to be posting my review of Jay Kristoff’s novel Nevernight.

Nevernight

Nevernight by: Jay Kristoff: Mia Corvere is a killer but she joins a school of assassins hoping to seek vengeance against the powers that killed her family. What she doesn’t expect are the people she meets, and the challenges that face her as she becomes closer to her vengeance. This was an action packed novel. The plot, for the most part, was pretty good. The world building was fun and let the reader dive right into the story. What took the reader out of the story were all the footnotes that Kristoff added to a lot of his chapters to give more information to his world. As much as it was nice to read, and a lovely addition, it broke the flow for the reader and left for a clunky reading experience. The writing was really good though; it was almost lyrical at times, but there were also times when it was blunt and very strongly worded. That aside, there’s something about Kristoff’s writing that is magical and fun to read. Because of this, he created very rounded and witty characters that the reader enjoyed reading. Their overall arcs were fun to read; they were exciting and full of adventure. The main character’s side kick was a treat, and the witty banter between the two left for some highly entertaining reading. The reader is very curious where this story is going to continue in the second book, as Kristoff does a good job of not creating a cliff-hanger ending, but still an ending that leaves his readers wanting more.
