Hello friends, I hope you’re all having a good Thursday. Today I’m going to be posting my review of Jessica Cluess’ novel A Shadow Bright and Burning.
This is the first novel in the Kingdom on Fire trilogy.
A Shadow Bright and Burning by: Jessica Cluess: Henrietta has powers that let her burst into flames on command. Thinking she’s a witch, it’s later found out that she’s actually the first female sorcerer in years. Now she must train with the royal sorcerers as they believe her the one to defeat the monsters set out to destroy humanity, but she may not be the chosen one. Filled with betrayal and deception this first novel in Cluess’ trilogy really lets the reader into this world. The concept and the plot were fun and definitely kept the reader entertained. It wasn’t the most original story, but it was still fast-paced and well written that the reader found themselves lost in the story. The characters also really made this story stand out. Henrietta is fierce and full of loyalty to what she loves. Her best friend Rook was enjoyable to read and such a sweet character; the reader wishes we’d gotten more backstory into his character. The reader is invested enough to see where the story is going to go, and hopefully see more of this world and more of the powers that these characters possess.
Hey Meghan, great post! This is a really succinct and helpful review 🙂
