Bony’s Top Books of 2022

Hi friends, happy Tuesday! I hope you are all well. The time has come for me to list out my top books from last year; I’m excited so let’s jump right into it!

Last year I read 125 books (yay!) of those, only 15 books hit the 5 star read! That actually surprises me, I thought I had more. I think that has a lot to do with me rating a lot of the books I enjoyed 4 stars because I just didn’t see myself rereading them. But alas here we are! Of my 15 top reads, 2 of them were re-reads.

I’m going in order of when I read them, so starting with January going into December.

The first up is Blackout by: Angie Thomas, Dhonielle Clayton, Ashley Woodfolk, Nic Stone, Nicola Yoon, Tiffany D. Jackson. I enjoyed this short novel immensely; it felt relatable and it was just so cute. I can’t wait to read Whiteout by these authors too! You can read my review.

The Insiders by: Mark Oshiro was such a beautiful novel. It was full of love and acceptance. These kids had so much love in their life; it was just so perfect for kids to read. Read my review.

Clap When You Land by: Elizabeth Acevedo. I listened to this on audio and I truly think that’s the best way to listen to books written in verse. My gosh, the story itself was so harrowing, but so full of love. The back and forth between the two sisters was just too good. I think this might be my favourite by Elizabeth Acevedo yet! Read my review.

Anne of Green Gables by: L.M. Montgomery. I don’t know why it took me almost 30 years to read Anne… but I am so happy she has finally come into my life. I look forward to reading the rest of the series (hopefully this year!). Anne is a treasure, she is so pure and full of wonder; it’s so hard not to love her. Read my review.

Mexican Gothic by: Silvia Moreno-Garcia. I could read anything this author writes. So far, I’ve loved everything, but of the 3 books I’ve read, this one has been hands down my favourite. It had just the right amount of yuck factor to give me the hibbie jibbies 😂 The writing was superb. I know this one isn’t for everyone, but I truly loved it. Read my review.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before by: Jenny Han. This was a re-read for me. I listened to it on audio and it was just as good as the first time I read it. This put me in a happy place when things weren’t so great and I just loved it. I don’t know why I never continued to listen to the rest of the books, maybe I will this year. Read my review.

Once Upon an Eid edited by: S.K. Ali. This book! I’ve seen it floating around and I’m so happy I’ve finally read it because it was just SO good. It left me feeling so happy. I loved seeing children express joy it’s just so fun to be apart of. Read my review.

The Picture of Dorian Gray by: Oscar Wilde. I read this every year, this is the other re-read on this list, and I will continue to read this every year because I love that I find something new to see when I re-read it. Plus, the fact that I’m a little older each time also puts an interesting perspective to my takeaway. Read my review.

Professional Troublemaker by: Luvvie Ajayi Jones. I will read anything this woman writes because she does it well, she’s funny and she always has a point worth listening to. Her other book, I’m Judging You made it on my list last year, so I’m not surprised this book is here. Read my review.

The Bear and the Nightingale, The Girl in the Tower, and The Winter of the Witch by: Katherine Arden. This whole trilogy was a 5-star read! From start to finish I feel like this was perfection. The growth of these characters is something I’ve never read before, even the atmosphere had growth! These were truly chilling, yet engrossing books I can’t recommend them enough. Read my review of book one, book two, and book three.

Words in Deep Blue by: Cath Crowley. This one had amazing mental health representation and dealing with grief; it was just so beautifully written. The icing on top of the cake to move this to 5 star was the fact that it dealt in and around a bookstore and the whole library notes system they had (I’m not doing its description justice) was amazing and I loved it. Read my review.

Daughter of the Moon Goddess by: Sue Lynn Tan. This was a debut novel and it completely blew me away. I was constantly saving quotes and it just broke up heart. I can’t wait to read the sequel. Read my review.

Wonder Woman: Warbringer by: Leigh Bardugo. The last book on the list was one I read a few weeks ago and I honestly didn’t expect to rate this so high. You know when you read a book and you just feel so happy while you’re reading it, that’s how I felt throughout this read. I know nothing about Wonder Woman and I think that’s why I was able to love it as much as I did; I had no knowledge to compare it to. So it was an all around fun read. Read my review.

And that’s a wrap on my top books for 2022! Have you read any of these books? What were your thoughts? Happy reading in 2023!
