The Mortal Word

The Mortal Word by: Genevieve Cogman: Right off the heels of her last assignment, Librarian Irene is informed of a top secret dragon-Fae conference where the second-in-command dragon has been stabbed and killed. She and Vale must head to 1890s Paris to start investigating but they uncover that Librarians were involved. Now the peace between Librarians, dragons and Fae are in jeopardy as no one knows who committed the crime. This novel was just as action-packed as the previous four novels were and even though each time the stakes get higher, Cogman seems to break that expectation with each novel. This installment truly took the story and the characters to new places. The plot was fun and full of action; even though it was never a dull moment, there were times when the pacing was on the slow side; it helped the reader take things in better, but it also made part of the story drag. But in the end, it was still a well told story that kept the reader guessing. The characters on the other hand went through so much and the way this novel ended is going to change the dynamics of some of our main characters so the reader is really intrigued to see how everything plays out in the next novel; that and the reader canโ€™t wait for the next mission. Each mission brings new challenges and really tests the characters to their limits; itโ€™s really refreshing to see them put their all into something they love and to fight for the ones they love. Overall, this was a captivating edition to an already addictive series.
