Weekly Update #40 πŸ“Έ

Hello friends, happy Friday and welcome to my Weekly Update!

Currently Reading:

On page 561
On page 33

The Bachman Books; 61% of the way; I continuing with Roadwork this week, we start part 2 with the main character wallowing over his wife leaving and his impending doom of losing his house. A character is introduced to help us learn more about the main character, which was good because now the reader understands him better.

Lastly, I’m reading Chain of Iron by: Cassandra Clare. I’m back in the Shadowhunter world. I’m not very far, but the first chapter has left me interested to continue.

What I’ve Read:

Last week I finished The Fates Divide by: Veronica Roth. I didn’t really care for this but I do like how it closed off the duology. It was fast-paced, but I had such a hard time keeping track of who was who and just caring about the plot.

I also finished The Twelve Lives of Samuel Hawley by: Hannah Tinti. I don’t know what I thought about this book. I think I liked the concept and the idea of this, but the execution was iffy for me. I also liked the writing too, but it took me forever to get into and stay into this.

Goosebumps Books:

Say Cheese and Die! This was such a fast paced read that I read it in one sitting, plus I remember the TV show episode of this one.
The Curse of the Mummy’s Tomb This was slower, the pacing was really good though as it really brought the creep factor and got the heart racing.
Let’s Get Invisible! This was a slow build up but the ending is what truly got me.
Night of the Living Dummy This one was just an okay read for me; I know that Slappy is a classic Goosebumps night terror but I didn’t find him scary.
Welcome to Camp Nightmare I enjoyed this one and that ending was comical, yet horrifying at the same time.
The Haunted Mask This one was spooky and engaging.
The Werewolf of Fever Swamp This one I didn’t care for, it bored me and I hated the way every chapter had to end on a cliff hanger – it annoyed me more than it made me want to read it.

I have nothing to really update here. This week has been a very quiet one. I made an impromptu trip to the library since 3 more Goosebumps book were ready to be picked up.

What I’m watching:

Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life; this week I re-watched Summer and maaan, I really hate Rory so much. Like I don’t think I’ve ever hated her more. Her entitlement to everything, like she feels everyone owes her something, like no. Then she’s angry that Emily is living a bit of a different lifestyle now that Richard is gone, ugh go away. I did like the return of Jess (I think he comes back next ep too) OH and April, she’s hilarious. I also hated the whole musical thing just like Lorelei did, like uh, the Waterloo part at the end had me laughing though.

Chapelwaite; season 1. So I figured what was going to happen to Loa I am very interested to see where this is going to go because we’ve been building up for what feels like this moment, now what is going to happen. I like how slow this feels yet you don’t notice how fast the hour goes!

The Good Doctor; season 5. This week’s episode was interesting; it was funny to see how all the doctors tried to adapt to all the changes happening at the hospital with the new owners. The one manager who now owns the place is just walking around just saying anything that comes to her mind. Also, it was moving to see Morgan apologize for like the first time, that was a moment.

Station 19; season 5. This week’s episode was good; watching them try and do better in the world was so good to see. It’s nice to see on screen, but it also makes you wish that things like this were happening in real life.

Grey’s Anatomy; season 18. I’m curious to see where this season is going to go because Meredith is now going to be spending her time in Minnesota trying to cure Parkinson’s Disease. I do like seeing Peter Gallaghar again OH and Scott Speedman, I love seeing him too, both actors I’ve loved from past shows.

Brooklyn Nine Nine; season 6. I made a dent in this season this week in my re-watch. The episode where Amy tries to put a sexual assaulter behind bars and get justice was just as heavy now as when I watched it the first time. Jake learning about all these awful things that happen to women was done in a good way, I think. It was slightly comedic but also held a lot of weight.

What I’ve watched:

Hellmington. This is a horror movie that I thought would be fun to start spooky month… NO this is not the movie for that. Just NO. Major trigger warnings for sexual assault and rape. Basically the premise is that the main character, Sam has gone back to her hometown because her father is dying. When he dies he says says something “Katie Owens” a girl who went missing years ago. We get all these flashbacks that are so disorganized that the viewer has the HARDEST time trying to put all the pieces together. Then in the last 20 minutes or so it’s all spelt out and WTF?! Katie joined a cult and decided to take revenge on Sam, when she should have been taking revenge on her boyfriend for sexually assaulting her… like what is with the woman hating?! Just don’t watch this it will make you rage!!

The Dead Zone; season 6. I finished this and I actually didn’t hate it. I was prepared to be angry and feel unresolved… but I didn’t feel either of those things. Yes, we’ll never know if armageddon happens, but the way this ended was sorta happy and I didn’t feel like I needed to know. All the storylines from this season wrapped up and we’ll just always know that Stillson is evil. They made it feel like an ending so it wasn’t a cliff hanger and I’m happy about that.

Riverdale; season 5. This season finally ended! This season felt suuuper long because of how it was stretched out over the pandemic. This season was full of SO much, not only do we get a 7 year time jump, we get a new terror in the moth men and the lonely highway, Cheryl starts a new church, and just the overall craziness that happens in this show. This is a show I love to hate on and of course I’ll be watching season 6 πŸ˜…

    1. Same, I’m realizing this re-watch that I’m not liking it as much as I did the first time. Gilmore Girls will always have a special place in my heart! πŸ’ž

  1. Whenever I see a Cassandra Clare book it makes me want to dive into that whole dimension again (I stopped at the beginning of Lady Midnight) but I know I’ll have to go back to the beginning to make sense of it again and I’m in no way prepared for that dedication 🀣. Thank you for the mention!! ✨🧑

    1. I feel you on that because sometimes I get the feeling of re-reading her books from the beginning all the time, but yes it’s a big commitment to do it!
