Review: Specials

Hi friends, I hope you’re having a good Thursday. Today I’m going to be reviewing Scott Westerfeld’s third novel in the Uglies series Specials.

You can read my review of the first novel: Uglies
You can read my review of the second novel: Pretties

Specials

Specials by: Scott Westerfeld: Tally is now a Special, a perfectly programmed person with all these new abilities. But she’s not totally perfect because she can remember some of her memories, memories from another part of her life. Tally is still faced with a choice, tune out the thoughts or to fight for what she knows to be right, even if it can cost her, her life. This was a rollercoaster of a novel. Where the reader started and where they ended were in two completely different places. The amount of twists and turns this novel went through was, by the end, enough to keep the reader invested. The first half of this novel wasn’t that captivating; the plot just felt like it was at a bit of a standstill, it also didn’t help that the characters were really whiny. Now that the two main characters became Specials it was interesting to see the new features, but it wasn’t until near the last half of this novel that the plot kicked into overdrive and all these twists started happening. The characters all had their own ulterior motives and it just didn’t feel like any of them worked together to move the plot along and it made reading this hard. Overall, this an alright novel; the reader is still curious how this will all end because Tally’s work isn’t completely done yet, there is still unfinished business that needs attending.
