PRINCE2 & PMP Certifications: Head-to-head

When it comes to the International Project management certification programs, PMP and PRINCE 2 are the most respected and sought-after ones. Though both these programs aim towards managing projects with higher efficiency, there are some prominent points of difference between the two.  Paragraphs underneath shall explore those points of difference.

The subject matter

PMP is concerned with knowledge of project management, while, PRINCE2 deals with the methodologies for running the projects with enhanced efficiency. As such, it will be right to say that the PMP is the theoretical approach while, PRINCE 2 is the applied part. PMP is concerned with the probable ways to bring more efficiency while, PRICE 2 deals with the type of the improvements, the probable time to reach the standards as well as the key players to bring the improvements.

Countries that follows these certification standards

PMO is more popular in the United States and Canada, as well as in the Australian Continent and the Middle-East Nations. On the other hand, the United States and other Europen nations hold priority for the Prince2 certification program.

What are the differences in terms of the examination format?

For both these certifications, the accrediting bodies will serve study materials to the candidates, undergoing the programs. As for PMP, candidates will require answering 200 questions, while for the PRINCE2 Certification, you will require answering 75 and 80 questions, for the foundation and Practitioner level examinations. The questions for PMP and PRINCE2 Foundation level certification are in multiple choice format, while for the practitioner level examination for the PRINCE2, the questions are in Objective testing type. Though, the questions for the PMP certification and PRINCE2 foundation are of abstract types, for that on the practitioner level of the PRINCE2 program, the questions are based on specific scenarios.
