Review: The Burning Page

Hello friends, happy Wednesday – I hope you are all doing well! Today I’m going to be posting my review of the third novel in Genevieve Cogman’s Invisible Library series, The Burning Page.

The Burning Page

The Burning Page by: Genevieve Cogman: Right off the heels of saving her friend and partner, Kai, Irene has been put on probation for her involvement with dragons and Fae. Now stuck doing basic jobs, that is until her nemesis, Alberich, starts to stir more trouble than usual. Instead of wreaking havoc on a single book or librarian, he plans to destroy the entire Library. Irene will need all the help she can get to try and take him down. With the passage of each novel, the story seems to be getting better and better. The world is really starting to open up and the reader is starting to understand how all the different worlds come together. The world building is slow, but it is rewarding once the pieces fall into place. The plot was fast-paced and kept the reader on their toes; it was surprising how quickly this novel moved compared to the last two. The ups and downs that happen take the reader on a journey with unexpected twists and turns. This ended in such a nail biting way with so much at stake and so much uncertainty. The way Cogman was able to end this was really well done, even if the reader had to read about burning books. We are seeing the characters develop with each passing novel; seeing the main character, Irene, get better at her job and become closer with her partner, Kai. The reader hopes to see more come out of the subtle hints of her parentage in future novels because that seemed quite interesting and might show another light into the world of being a Librarian. Overall, this was a solid, fun, action-packed novel that the reader can’t wait to see what is going to happen next.
