The Mask Falling

The Mask Falling by: Samantha Shannon: Paige Mahoney has escaped death once more. Now she finds herself stuck between a group who want to see Scion taken down and those who would protect the Rephaim and their manipulating ways. With her former enemy, Arcturus, she sets out on an adventure to start a rebellion. But as plots thicken, her rebellion might cause an all-out war. The reader has no idea what they just read. This novel was super action-packed and even when the reader thought they knew where the plot was going, oh no, Shannon had other plans. From the moment this novel started, we jump right into the action and pick up right where the last novel ended. From there it’s one hightailing story arc after another. The way Shannon also managed to weave so effortlessly all the characters’ stories together was brilliantly done. We see so many characters from the previous novels and they all come together so well. The way this novel ended had the reader screaming no, as we come to a crashing halt. The reader now can’t wait for the next novel to see what is going to happen to Paige. The characters really go through so much this book, especially our main character, Paige. It was exhilarating to read all the ups and downs. We see sides of characters we’ve never seen, which moved stories and really played at the reader’s emotions. Shannon’s writing is so clever and smart; it really shines in her characters because Paige is such a strong character; no matter what she goes through the reader can feel how determined she is. Even Arcturus is so strong willed and forcefully crafted, leaving such an impression on the reader. This was an intense, vivid and captivating read that really gripped the reader and upped their expectations to this series.
